Forging North
Forging North is a novel set in Alaska at the close of the 19th century. The gold rush is in full swing, and Thomas Thornton has left everything behind to head north.
With the lure of Alaska gold burning bright in his eyes, Thomas Thornton set out on a voyage to find fame and fortune. He left behind all that he had, with a promise to his girl he would return. Thomas soon learned that Alaska had other ideas about his future. With the grit and determination demanded by those that seek to tame Alaska, Thomas vows to see his dreams come true.

The grizzly exploded from the alders, making a nerve shattering woof and popping its jaws. Thomas instantly turned to yank the rifle from the scabbard but the horse spooked and whirled about, taking the gun out of reach. The bear stopped at thirty feet, swaying back and forth and still popping it’s jaws, obviously agitated. He needed to get the .45-70 but the horse kept turning just enough to make it impossible to grab on the other side...
