Heartbreak Cabin is the third novel in the Life on the Alaska Frontier Series
As winter fades, Thomas looks forward to the reunion with friends from Valdez and a productive mining season. An accident and subsequent events change the course of his plans. With a stranger in tow, the group arrives from Valdez, bringing with them further drama. Torn between two mines and two women, Thomas endeavors to keep it all together, never knowing they were headed for a confrontation no one imagined.

The lantern dimly illuminated the drift, and Thomas quickly noted it was narrower and not as tall. He stooped over and looked in both directions. As planned they had intersected at nearly right angles, with the old workings running parallel to the creek just as Sdzeè described. Thomas took a step to the left, the lantern dimmed and flickered, and he suddenly felt dizzy. The light went out and he stumbled, then fell, the lantern crashing to the ground. "Declan..."
